Hi

I am looking at developing my first module which will be a type of contact manager with associated linked tables.

I have found the series of Task Manager module development videos  but these are for DNN 5.6 and use a project template called "DotNetNuke Compiled C# Module" which I've downloaded and set up as a working example.

I have the Visual Studio Starter Kit 6.1.3 installed which provides "DotNetNuke Compiled Module" project templates in VB and C#. I use VB so this seems the better option for me. It doesn't seem to compile into a zip which will install though.

Which is the newer version and which one should I use for development in DNN 6.1.3?

Ideally I want to use VB but I can't find any help information or videos for the templates provided with the Starter Kit.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Terry

You should download my VB template and use that, it'll work better than the ones in the starter kit. The Task Manager module is done in C#, but if you want you can use a converter to change things to VB, it is all pretty basic from a code perspective for that module.

Grab the latest VB template at http://christoctemplate.codeplex.com/

Just a short question: Is it still possible to used "runtime compiled" modules in DNN 6.x?
I've written and used a custom uncompiled module in earlier DNN versions without any problems and so I was able to do code modifications without the need to (re-)compile the module. But I guess since DNN core is now written in C# and my module is a VB one, I really need to compile it after every change...

Please correct me if I'm wrong ;-)

Christoph, you could still use the runtime compiled approach with VB.net even though DNN is now C#
