We recently had a volunteer help in upgrading our website from 5.X (was current as of 1/2011, I think but I don't have the exact version) to current.  It was done as an incremental, first upgrading to 6.0 and then 6.1 as recommended.  The installation reported that it was successful but I'm seeing 2 primary issues.

The biggest issue is that I'm unable to login.  When I click login, I get the form, enter my username / password, and press enter or click login and nothing happens.  I get the same behavior in both IE9 and FF9.  No incorrect password message or anything, the form just doesn't post back.  Are there other threads on this that I haven't been able to find or any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?  I can't get to the admin/host controls to verify the verison or anything until I get this working.

The other issue is that the Navigation control (Admin/Skins/Nav.ascx) isn't displaying.  I saw a few posts that it may be a z-index issue but I haven't dug much further since then.  Is anyone else seeing this type of behavior and have any other thoughts beyond a potential z-index issue?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you may have had the machine key value change in your web.config. Did you make sure you placed the original machine key value in the web.config that was there from the original installation?

Patrick - I appreciate the reply. I would think that the machine key being incorrect would cause the site to be unresponsive entirely. In any event, I checked it anyway and the machine key before and after the upgrade match.

Anyone with any other suggestions? I could really use some help here. Thanks!

Actually no, the machine key is used for encrypting data, like your login password. It won't make the entire site unresponsive, this is actually a common cause for failed logins with DNN.

See if you can load the login control dynamically on another page. It could be something on the page causing the issue. Try adding ?ctl=Login at the end of the URL for any page.

The login control loads, and I did previously try logging in from different pages. The problem is when I click on the login link to actually do the post back, nothing happens. No invalid password message, nothing. It just appears that the form isn't posting back the way that it should. If you wouldn't mind taking a quick look at it, I'll send you a private message with the URL so you can see what I'm talking about. Let me know your thoughts. And thanks again!
