I am curious as to what checks DNN does on open to determine whether to show the opening portal page or the New Site Installation Wizard. I have a site I moved to my local Machine to experiment with the upgrade process, v5 to v6. Don't want to do it on the live site. I copied down the site and database. Restored the database locally. Modified my connection strings in the web.config file and have checked these with another project to confirm that the strings actually allow connection to the database. I have checked IIS to make sure the project is an application. I think I have to portal set correctly in the portal aliases table. The name of the local installation is AUGSD. In the portal alias table I have localhost/augsd. Is that correct?

So assuming the basics are covered I'd like to know what checks DNN goes through on open to determine that a site does not exist and start the installation wizard. Any information will be much appreciated.

Doug
