User logging error after upgrade version 4.9 to 5.4 -Please help help

I have Upgraded our customer solution from version 4.8 to 4.9 successfully but when did the next upgrade from 4.9 to 5.4 I get Object not set error in  page when trying to log in to the system, DNN Admin can access the site without no problem..but general users can not access..

I debug the code and I get an exception from Default.aspx.vb page at 

' add skin to page
            SkinPlaceHolder.Controls.Add(ctlSkin)
 line...I have given the images in this link..

I can not figure out what is the problem is and I'm blocked with this upgration have to upgrade till 6.2 ....far to goo...PLEASE HELP DNN...

Hi I did debug and find a plce which give me exception can you please help me to solve this is a conversion error and that GetPortalModuleBase method is obsolete so how should I modify my code??? please refer the image link below.
