Dan, I'll try to remember to test with a locked-out account tonight to see what happens. I know your users account isn't locked out but I want to see what error message is returned. Other than that I'm not sure what I can do to recreate the issue and debug it.

I'll also do some hunting at home. I used to have a small web app that just did authentication against the domain but I don't have it posted anywhere anymore. I'll see if I can find it and possibly we can use that for testing.

Dan, what version of the provider are you running on this portal? I just tried with a locked out account on my dev system and I'm not getting any kind of error message in the event logs or the login control about the account being locked. With the locked account I just get the usual username/password error.

EDIT: Further testing.... I purposely tried to log in wrong six times (the portal is set to lock accounts at five wrong attempts) and the user account didn't get locked in the portal but did get locked in the AD. Again, nothing about a locked account in the Event Viewer.

I wasn't having any luck with the current release version, so I installed the beta to test it out...

Honestly, I don't think it is a case of actually being locked out, but interpreting it as such. I was playing around in the DNN database this morning, removing all references to his account, so will have him test again.

Well, after purging the database of all references I could find of that account, he still cannot log in.

But, now the error messages have changed to "Login Failure" instead of the page load exception listed above.

What would cause a login failure for an AD user on a portal that is used quite a bit by other users in the same AD domain?

I don't know if you have figured it out yet but I had a similar problem yesterday.

In the end I found references in the aspnet_Users and aspnet_Membership that hadn't been deleted.

I removed them and found the user could log in again.

Jacqui.
