I've searched the forums and several blogs about this and while I've found some info about "mixed mode" authentication, I have not quite found a specific answer to this question.

I'd like to setup AD for Host and Admin account authentication but leave our general membership using the default provider.  I'm primarily interested for increased control and authentication security we gain for admin and host accounts using AD.

We have our own edge gateways and run AD within our DC.  Is something like this possible?

Hi Steven

Theoretically you could. What you would do is install the provider and do the setup. Then in the web.config comment out all instances of in the and sections. What you could do then is have those who you want to have access go to http:///desktopmodules/authentication/activedirectory/windowssignin.aspx and get signed in. From there you could assign them to the admin role. Host role has to be done manually through the database.

Thanks for the prompt reply. It's something our security team is very interested in and we'll work toward it after we complete some other projects. Fortunately we can test this config in a staging environment first.
