We have DNN Version 501 installed and it has been debugging fine in VS2008 from local IIS with local admin access. (The local IIS web site is set with Integrated windows authentication only) Now I lost my local admin access due to some company policy, I have issue loading DNN solution: Unable to open the web site 'http://localhost/Portal501', The web server does not appear to have any authentication methods enabled. It asked for user authentication, but did not send WWW-Authenticate header. Since now I don't have access to local IIS.

Then I tried to build a new web site (from file system) in VS2008 pointing to same DNN file folder and debug, the VS2008 first loaded personal development web server (with the port#),  then it redirect to localhost/Portal501, the debug didn't stop at my break point. I also tried to add personal development web server (with the port#) into PortalAlias table and then debug, it still tries the personal development web server (with the port#) first,  then it redirect to localhost/Portal501.

Any suggestions? please help. Thanks a lot.

you need admin access as that is the way IIS is setup - you can of course use the built-in webserver in vs.net 2008 (which is called cassini) but you will end up with a site running on a high port number e.g. "localhost:34567" -another option is to use IIS express which replicates much of IIS's functionality and can be ran by non-admins. Whilst the experience in vs.net 2010 (sp1)/webmatrix is good as it's fully integrated you can run it via the command line and use it in vs.net 2008 (see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4682727/how-to-configure-visual-studio-2008-to-use-iis-express)

Thanks a lot Cathal. Good information here about IIS express and vs2010 webmatrix. But since I don't have local admin, installing IIS express and/or vs2010 needs Admin support from support team, I know it's a lot of pain :-(

Thank  you.
