Hi - not sure if this is the correct forum because if I understand correctly the localisation functionality built into DNN doesn't provide any localisation of dynamic content such as that contained within the HTML module.

Can someon give me some pointers as to how I would design a DNN solution for a site which needs to exist in multiple languages?

Thanks,

this is the correct forum ;)

U can build your own modules to handle dynamic localization. There are different ways to go about that, but the essence is that you need to store your content in such a way that your module logic can select the correct content for a specific language.

I have a couple of modules available (some free, some commercial) that offer solutions for html, announcements, links, faq, survey, and some utilities, like language selector, skinhelper (localize anything in your skin), and pagelocalization (used to localize menus), see for more info my site: www.apollo-software.nl.

You can also check Locopon's site: http://dnn.tiendaboliviana.com/, he also has a module that lets you localize menu items, and some modules for content localization as well...

cheers,

erik

Thats great - thanks for the link. Question, does your HTML module support change management i.e. can you see the history of changes that have been made to the content?

I suppose another solution making use of the existing modules is to do a portal per language although I can't off the top of my head think how to redirect to the correct portal...

sorry.. no change management yet.. its just a multilingual version of the core module. It's on my roadmap though... but no timeframe...

One portal per language can have advantages, if your content is not related, and you have different admins per language that are completely independent. Like you said, proper redirection is very difficult.... Otherwise, one ml portal has the advantage that it's easier to keep versions in synch...

cheers,

Erik
