Which version of DNN are you trying to install?
Which version of .NET do you have installed?
Which version of SQL DB are you using?
Is you DB local or on another server?
Do you have admin privleges on your XP box so that you can change folder permissions, etc?

The version of DNN that I am trying to install is the 4.0.3

I installed .NET framework version 1.1 and I used ASP.NET version 1.1.4322

I'm using SQL Server 2000

My DB is local

Yes, my XP profile is administrator.

I  use IIS v.5.1

The error occurred recently on my PC is:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Source Error:

Line 60: <!-- Forms or Windows authentication -->
Line 61: <authentication mode="Forms">
Line 62: <forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="60" />
Line 63: </authentication>

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.573; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.573

I think that I wrong during the autorization settings.

What do you think about this?

First thing is that you'll need ASP.Net 2.0 to use DNN 4.03.

The next thing, which is the error you are getting is that you need to setup your virtual directory as an application.
