Having the same issue that quite a few others are having here and despite searching and trying the suggested fixes here I'm still not able to get it to work.  If I use the full URL of the WindowsSignin.aspx I get logged in just fine but going to the root of the site doesn't automatically log me in.  I'm open to suggestions as to how to get it to work.  Here is more info about my setup.

OS:  Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard (6.1 7601 SP1)
IIS:  7.5.7600.16385
DNN:  6.1.4
AD Provider:  5.0.3

It should already be uncommented but check the section of your web.config for a line . There's actually two of them (one is legacy from a long time ago) but it should be the second one that's uncommented.

If it is then I'd try deleting your cookies and cache if you haven't already or waiting for ~ 1 hour and trying again (there's an authentication cookie that's created and it won't attempt auto-login again until it times out).

Which line should be uncommented?  Here is my <httpModules> section from web.config.

<httpModules>
<!-- add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" / -->
<add name="Compression" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression.CompressionModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="RequestFilter" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.RequestFilter.RequestFilterModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="UrlRewrite" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="Exception" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Exceptions.ExceptionModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="UsersOnline" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UsersOnline.UsersOnlineModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="DNNMembership" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Membership.MembershipModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="Personalization" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Personalization.PersonalizationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
<add name="Analytics" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Analytics.AnalyticsModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />

The last line in that section and it is un-commented so you're good there.

Have you tried clearing your cookies and cache? Are you getting any errors/events in the EventViewer in DNN?

I'm seeing this in the event log but I don't know if it's related.

Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dnn\Portals\0\Cache\Pages\52_ACABA51644A302FBB325E30E7931BAF8.data.resources' is denied.
