I am not sure if this is the right forum, but it seems most appropriate.  I am using a default 4.03 DNN install with Active Forums being the only 3rd party module installed/being used on the site.  This is a WoW guild site and we are currently having a lot of activity in terms of registration, etc, but that should fall off.  I am getting the following error on a daily basis:

File
Error  The transaction log for database '<database>' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases

The hosting company has truncated the transaction log a couple of times, but it fills up within 24 hours, causing this error on login.  Is there something on the configuration of DNN to prevent this? This is the default install, so site logging is going into the database instead of the file system.  Any suggestions here?

I have recommended that they change transaction logging on our database to 'Simple Logging'.  I don't have Enterprise Manager in front of me, so that may not be the exact name, but it is the simplest form of logging.  I am not sure if they have.

Thanks in advance for everyones time and consideration,

scot.

usually the transaction log gets truncated frequently after backups. Check your sql server configuration, there is also a sysproc to truncate the transaction log manually.

I got this fixed (I am pretty sure anyway).  Basically, being a 'hobby' site, we don't need to worry about a point in time data restoration from catestrophic failure.  So, changed the recovery model from full to simple and the log file is no longer filling up every 8 - 12 hours.

If your data is mission critical, and you can't afford to lose data entered or changed since the last backup, you should use the full recovery model and just adapt your transaction log size to accomadate the load.  Thanks for everyones time that looked at or tried to help me resolve this.

I am supprised your hosting company was unable to assit you with this.  I would ask you hist to set up transactiosn log backups every 1 hour or so

I was suprised myself.  In the end, I logged into the Sql Server myself and changed the recovery model to simple.  What was so frusterating is I kept explaining (at least 3 times) that this was a hobby site and requested logging be changed to simple.  I guess had i said recovery model to simple, perhaps they would have understood.  I miss my co-lo hosting :(.
