I have created a starter kit that can be used to create a module using the Web Application Project.  You can read more about it here

http://www.bertcord.com/Home/tabid/54/Default.aspx

Thsi is similiar to the method I posted about here but instead of writing to the bin folder of the DotNetNuke application it writes to its own bin folder.  Using a post build command I then copy teh moduel files and dll's to the target directories.

Hello Bert

Good job - however I am still undecided as to what to use - it seems the core team defintely are not going the WAP route (pity) - but there have been a couple of proposals on what to use.

I haven't had time to look into all the options, but I was remember reading that the core needs to be a WAP project too to support this - is this the case?

Basically I'm trying to find out if your dev environment is the same as mine - eg. I need to be able to develop modules separately from the core (occasionally debugging it but not essential), and have an easy way to package and deploy them (which I know WAP is good for).

Are there any caveats or problems one should be aware of with this model?

Thanks for the effort!

I've been really trying to follow the WAP posts lately and I am a little confused as to why we are still beating a dead horse.

From this post....

Specifically this part...
WE WILL NOT CONVERT DOTNETNUKE TO A WEB APPLICATION PROJECT

What am I missing?

Free choice perhaps?

I don't think we should confine ourselves to eveything the core team does without exploring better options - if Bert has found a way to harness the WAP project that makes my life easier to deploy custom modules without the source (Majority want quick and easy deployement with source it seems) then I am interested in his solution and want to find out more... the fact that the core team don't do it in their dev environment is interesting, but not a showstopper.

At work I have certain business requirements….requirements that I think all professional development shops should have.  The need to version sections of a web application  and maintain version numbers on the deployed DLL’s.  This CAN NOT be done by creating using the WSP model.

Rodney,
Yes modules are developed separate from the core and this makes it easy to package and deploy.  No caveats that I am aware of as of yet.

Dwayne,
The DotNetNuke project has NOT been converted to a Web Application Project, only new modules that you may be developing.

The WSP makes it too difficult for users that need to distribute modules with out the source and any users with this requirement should have a non Express version of Visual studio
