Right now the module is only for showing an RSS feed.  Through use of custom XSLT templates you can support other feed formats such as Atom.  The new version which is currently in beta testing will help to make support for multiple feeds easier.  This module is not currently for creating news.

So, what module is for creating news?

As far as core modules, I would have to say Announcements or Blogs may be what your looking for. There are lots of other more advanced article modules from third party vendors. The title News for this project is unfortunate, as it is a bit of a misnomer, but Josh is abosultely correct in pointing out this is an aggregation module, it receives news and displays, but plays no part in its creation. Hope that helps.

As far as the name of this project goes, I to think it is confusing.  The name of the module, and the original name of the project was 'News Feeds', which is a lot more clear.  The project was re-named to just 'News' prior to me taking it over.  I'll try and find out why it was changed and if it makes sense to change it back.  We have however discussed whether or not it makes sense to add the ability to create news as well.  That is a distant priority however because we are still working on getting the feeds functionality working well.  I would echo Scott's suggestion about using the  Blog module as well.  Several people use it for creating 'news'.  There are also several 3rd party modules that are very reasonable in price.  I have used Ventrian's News Articles module in the past (and still do), and I think you can pick it up for less than $30.

I believe there are several other alternatives out there as well.
