Hello,

I am attempting to install DotNetNuke for the 1st time.  I have very carfully followed Chris Hammond's steps laid out in the "DotNetNuke Explained: Installation" presentation.

I repeatedly get stopped at the "Configure Database Connection" page with .Net SqlClient Data Provider error number: 15364.  I am unable to find any answers on the web as to what might be causing my problem.

I believe my configuration is rather straightforward:  I am running on a Win7 desktop with SQL Express 10.0.5500 and installing the "DotNetNuke_Community_06.01.05_Install".

Does anyone have an idea what would cause this error?

Thanks ... Steve.

that error occurs when you try to use sql express -and you are using user instances. As these are created in the context of the user (and expect to have Admin rights) if they cannot be created that error is thrown. Typically this means you have insufficent windows permissions - the best thing to do is to create the database directly in sql express (download the tools as otherwise you will have to use the command line) and then do a custom/typical install and provide the database name, username and password.

Thanks Cathal.

When you say "User Instances", are you referring to my installation of SQL Server Express?

When I ran the install procedure, I did manually create a database using SSMS (called "DotNetNuke") and create an ID (also "DotNetNuke") with owner priviledges for the database. I confirmed this by closing SSMS and re-connecting using the new ID and opened the database successfully. I provided the same database and ID to the installation procedure. This is all exactly as Chris Hammond indicated it should be.

When that failed, I had also attempted to install using Integrated Security. This failed with a different error number (#15350).

Any idea where I might be going wrong? ... Steve.

no ,user instances are a capability of sql express where it creates an instance of the database in the context of the user account(the connection string will contain text such as "User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;") - if you manually create a database you do not need to use user instances, in that case either edit the web.config and update both connectionstring references manually or else run through the install wizard (either typical or custom) and it will allow you to select the dartabase. As for 15350 this thread covers that problem - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/forumid/107/threadid/231939/scope/posts.aspx
