Currently most people use a project such as http://iweb.codeplex.com/ to do this. When DotNetNuke 6.2.0 is released you'll be able to use the new services framework to do this

Hi, thanks for your help. I'm using DNN 4.9.2 in my production website, this module is compatible with that version of dnn?

im not sure - a glance at it's manifest (http://iweb.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/view/12386#1205474) doesnt show any minimum version so I would think it would work ok - also the images at http://iweb.adefwebserver.com/Installing/tabid/58/Default.aspx show an install from 2006 so it looks like it's been around for some time.

This post from Steven Fabian: http://gooddogs.com.dnnmax.com/Blog/tabid/97/EntryId/21/WCF-lt-gt-DNN-BLog-Series-Index.aspx

...provides all kids of awesomeness for developing a RESTful interface to authenticate against the DNN membership...even making sure a user is in a specific role, etc.

I used this tutorial to create an authentication service and a few business solution against a DNN 5.6.2 install that another web server (Apache/Java, yeah I know I know) could authenticate against and check user permissions all on the back end.

I have to think this would be just as easy from a client.

PS - I installed and worked with iWeb a bit and while I liked it I found Steve's examples to be lighter weight and easier to implement.

Can't wait until the service layer is exposed in 6.2. Good stuff for anyone who needs to get data in DNN from other clients and systems.
