Hi Guys,

I am not sure whether this is the right place to post this. One of my client's website has been hacked and the URL is http://www.gofor2and5.com.au

I can see some scripts added on top and not sure how to clean this up. Please help.

I need to restore the website before I upgrade and the current version is 5.1.4

Thanks,
Atul

Your best bet may be to ask the hosting company to restore the site and database from the last known unhacked back-up.

after the restore, you need to identify, how the hackers were able to break into your site and fix this vulnerability ( by installing Windows upgrades and/or latest version of DNN and all modules and providers being used)

Hello Atul,

You will definitely want to try and get a restore from your hosting provider, once you get the restore done you will want to check and make sure that there aren't any files left behind from the hackers. Once you determine it is clean, you would need to upgrade the installation to the latest version.

More often than not a hack is done through a vulnerability in an older version of DNN that has been fixed with a patch. This is why it becomes very important to monitor the releases of DotNetNuke and to make sure that if there is a security update, to upgrade immediately after it comes out.

Hacks can be due to vulnerabilities in the software, they can also be due to weak or easily guessed passwords to accounts that are allowed to upload stuff.

Change passwords and keep them secret. A secret shared - isn't a secret any more.
