I need to move my DNN website from a free server to another server. What are the best practices that i should concider

1. do i install a clean installation as i have used DNN 6.1.03 anow there is a DNN updated version?

2. Is it possible that i can move my site to another server and then upgrade it?

3.What is the recommended space for both database and website does i need to have DNN insttaled and my content filled in.

Thanks

Hi,

updating is quite easy: just unzip the upgrade package into your DNN installation folder and navigate to the web site. The update runs automatically.

To move the site to another server is easy as well - just backup everything (site installation and database), restore it where you need it, and change the connection strings in the web.config file and - if necessary - the Http Alias in the PortalAlias table.

The space is completely depending on your needs, so there is no recommandation possible - at least, not a serious one.

Best wishes
Michael

I am registered for shared hosting with 123 reg hosting and I'm uploading through filezilla into the content directory at their end as instructed yet there seems to be a problem with my web config file .
They disabled this and pointed to a test page and this worked fine.
Can somebody help and see if there's some glaringly obvious wrong with the string etc etc in app settings and config settings....
Site works fine locally through web matrix using community template...
1000 thanks
simon.
