I am using the Dark Knight default skin for my website. I want to make some very minor changes to the skin but I am encountering some difficulties. I really just don't have an understand of the ascx code at all and I struggle understanding how to change the associated skin.css file. Where is the best place to learn about some simple concepts about skinning? I don't think I will need anything too advanced. Just basic things like adding a little bit of text to the footer and adding images that scale properly on different computers to the header.

It sounds to me like there are two issues here. I think I already recommended Joe Brinkman's series on skinning. http://www.theaccidentalgeek.com/post/2010/06/28/DotNetNuke-Skinning-101-(Part-1).aspx. I still do.

It will not make much sense unless you understand some of the underlying html and css. For that I think you'll need to find some html and css tutorials that cover this stuff without having to deal with DNN as well.

Thanks Richard. Aren't the .ascx files different than html though?

I should have been more specific.... I am trying to alter the Home-Mega-Menu.ascx and the skin.css file.... Can I get a copy of the Home-Mega-Menu.ascx as an html file or do I need to work with the Home-Mega-Menu.ascx file? I don't think Brinkman deals with .ascx files, he seems to talk about writing in html and allowing DNN to convert to ascx.

I'm not aware of Dark Knight being available in anything other than ascx. The conversion from html to ascx is a one way route.

Ascx is likely more familiar to those who are ASP.Net programmers. I'm a programmer and that's probably why I prefer the ascx format.

An awful lot of what Joe says still applies no matter what the file. It's only the embedded tokens for skin widgets that are seriously different. You can likely see by the waffle that I'm not familiar with them in html format.

Best wishes,
