Hi -

I have a dnn site that works fine with the alias "com-web1.compass.local/compass" and use this web site address:  http://com-web1.compass.local/compass/

I created a new alias www.compass.com, added it to the bindings on the same dnn site and put an entry to the same iP address in my dns server.  But when i go to http://www.compass.com it comes back and gives me this error:

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.

You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

Any ideas?

thanks

Jason

thats an IIS issue - you can verify that by pointing the IIS website to a new folder that only contains a static file (such as myimgage.jpg) and trying to browse to ww.compass.com/myimage.jpg. If that doesnt work, look to your DNS settings i.e. the domain either needs to resolve to the IP on a public DNS or via the local hosts file (or your active directory DNS if you have one) - to check this open a dos CMD prompt and type "ping www.compass.com" and see what IP is resolved

Thanks,

I was able to get the www.compass.com alias to work by changing the physical path of the application from c:\Root to c:\Root\dotnetnuke - this however caused the other alias  "com-web1.compass.local/compass"  to stop working and now it gives this error:

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Does this make any sense at all?

thanks
