Hi,

I have created a module that has a further info link, for this further info I would like to have a html module and a documents module on the one page/control.

Am I better just linking to a new page and having that page's template as the two modules or am I better off trying to integrate the two modules into my own module (is that possible?), of would I be better off just writing the control from scratch and coding my own functionality ?

Would really appreciate some guidance on this :).

Thanks.

JHF

Jacqui,

this is not helpful, I know: It's a matter of taste and/or requirements.

I would place the "Further Info" link in any link module on the same page to avoid work that has already be done, if it is not really necessary. If you say this link is absolutely required for the functionality of your module, then of course I would integrate it in the module.

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Michael.

Thanks for your reply, always helpful to have someone to bat ideas off and come up with their own :).  Let me explain a bit clearer.

I have a datagrid in my module and the end column is a further info link, this would link to further info related to the item on the row, this information is some text and some documents.

The text has to be formatted and so I want to use the html module for this and would like to display the documents in something like the documents module.

I just wondered how to go about this further info section, do I treat it as a new control in the module ? If so am I able to use the html module and the documents module inside my module ? Or do I have to try and write my own html and documents module control.

Would I be better just creating a new page for this and using the Documents and HTMl module there for the 'further info' and sending the link there rather than to a control within my module

The rest of the module is fine, it is just this further info section I am a bit unclear about how best/easiest/cleanest to go about it.

Regards

Jacqui

Jacqui,

you cannot use a module inside your own module.

There is a control providing the HTML editor (instead of a multi-line textbox) called "texteditor". it can be found in the controls directory. There might be also something newer, I did not check it out.

The documents module is a module of it's own, so you have to add the desired functionality in your own module. As the license is BSE/MIT, you can use the source code and write your own module as long as you publish this under the same license. Please be aware that I am not one of the DNN officials, so you better double-check the last sentence ;-)

Best wishes

actually, as the module(s) are BSD/MIT you can use the code and you do not have to republish under the same licence - the only requirement is to retain the source code comments i.e. the licence is so liberal you can actually take a core module and sell it
