I'm at a loss to figure out why the SMTP settings are not working correctly. I've entered the IP address for our SMTP server, entered in a valid user email on that server (even tried an admin user), made sure that the user email was the same as in the host details and as in the admin user account.

The error I'm receiving is:
"There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
The message was not delivered to the following address(es) -"

I've been putting in the following info:
SMTP.Server.IP.Address:25
Basic
user@domain.com
Password

I've even tried using it as anonymous, but no luck with that either.

Hi,

I am pretty sure that this depends on your SMTP server. You should study the log files there to find out the reason(s) for that issue.

You can also try TELNET in a command line box on your web server, something like

TELNET xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25

Do you get an answer then?

Normally, it is not necessary to add the port number in the SMTP settings, as 25 is the default SMTP port.

Best wishes
Michael

Thanks for the suggestion. Does it matter that the mail server is on a different server than the DNN application/site?

No, this should not be the problem. Maybe there are some SMTP Servers that do not work well with DNN (but I cannot think of a reason why). I use hMailServer myself, which is an open source product based on .Net, which really works fine. Also MS Exchange did not show up with any issues so far (in my personal experience).

Could you find out any error messages from your SMTP event logs?

Best wishes
Michael
