I found an old post that the Display Name label was actually part of the code and I'm unable to find it in the language resource files. I'm really hoping that this is still not the case considering how many other labels are included in the numerous resource files. But is the label editable anywhere within the system without modifying core files that'll just get overwritten?

all labels should be derived from resource file, where exactly are you looking for a translation (which module control)?

Every resource file listed in the admin/language section. I spent a number of hours reading through all of the labels with no luck (but a lot of annoyance).

I agree that it is not easy to find, which resource file is used, especially for user properties. Displayname used to be in Controls > User or DesktopModules > Admin > Security > User AFAIR, but I'll have to check for location in 6.2.0 and will reply later.

I had trouble finding the Display Name label and help text too. It is located in the resource file Local Resources > DesktopModules > Admin > Security > App_LocalResources > SharedResources.
