I think the new social stuff is great. I have a website where the members of the website would like to be able to view the profile information of other members. For example, if I enter a biography other members should be able to view my profile page and see this information. I changed the configuration to allow all members to see this profile item and it still displays on the profile page as ******.

This is frustrating my customer who would like to have this information available to help members of the site get to know each other better. The philosophy is that the members only need enter the information they want others to see.

Being a friend doesn't seem to affect this either.

If this is posted elsewhere please accept my apology. I spent about a half hour searching for a related item and can't find anything that addresses this issue.

Michael,

did you try to change the default visibility of the profile item? And then: Of course, any user can change the visibility of each item as he or she prefers...

Best wishes
Michael

if ****** is displayed, the user does not have permission to retrieve the information for this user. This is a security feature inside DNN TokenReplace.

Yes, I did set the default values for the profile visibility. I checked the SQL table and the values for those I want to display are set to 0. I event restarted the application to cover the event that the settings were cached.

I noticed that in the ProfilePropertiesDefinitions table the settings for each user are stored. They seem to be set to the default value for when they were created. When I tried to change the value for a particular user's visibility, the user profile stopped displaying completely.

When I create a new user, the visibility for that user is the same as the new default settings.

Is there a way to reset the broken user to cause them to display again. I know that I broke them by chaniging a system table directly but I would rather not delete and rebuild the user

Also, is there a function or method that will allow me to set the visibiltiy for all the users to match the new defaults.

Mike

I found that I can correct the user settings using the updateuserprofileproperty procedure. To update an entire user, I did the following:

select 'exec auhmwdne_vktp.dbo.updateuserprofileproperty -1, ' + str(UserID)+ ', ''' + str(PropertyDefinitionID)
           + ''', ''' + propertyvalue + ''', 0, '''', ''6/27/2012'';' as execvalue
 from auhmwdne_vktp.dbo.userprofile
where propertydefinitionid > 26
and propertydefinitionid < 39
and userid = 3

For this community, we want basically everything the user enters to be seen by others.

I also found that there must be a maximum length for the biography. I have a member of the site who has a very long biography and his profile is not displayed if the biography is visible.

Does anyone know the max length?

Mike
