Is it possible to create extra parent portals using localhost? If so, how do I do it? I know that parent portals need unique domain names, so would it just be possible to change the port number for the different parent portals? I've been trying this but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe I am making a mistake though. There is no issue creating child portals with localhost but I was wondering if I could do a similar thing creating parent portals.

in theory it should be possible as parent portas simply require a unique domain - as domains are comprised of protocol (e.g. http), domain (e.g. localhost) and port (e.g. 80) it would be possible - however its not something i've tested. I suggest trying to set the UsePortNumber to true in web.config to see if that helps

Hello,

Yes, you can do it by editing your hosts file.

"localhost" doesn't actually exist... it's pointing to 127.0.0.1 - the local address for your computer. The mapping of localhost is done in your hosts file. You can add other entries to your host file as well. So, you could add "FGJDev" and point it to 127.0.0.1, for example.

Then, in DNN, you can add FGJDev as a portal alias for your new portal.

Incidentally, you can also use 127.0.0.1 as a new portal if you want - as well as your computer name.

You could also create another install of DNN. That would be the easiest way to do it.
