if i try to take dnn as a base to provide website service, what i have to do besides making modules and skins??

1.  i tried to  run dnn source version but it showed me error...don't know if i can start taking dnn source version as starting....but the source version is seems complicated.plz help

2.couple of problems i faced while building modules under install version is that i want to have custom url instead aspx and those querystring signs.....but can't guess how do i write asp.net routing method in global.asax file as install version does not have source code avail...and from module can i use global.asax file?there are many things which i have no control coz i only have source control from module building...

3.so how do i start properly to take dnn as starting to make website for customers?

Rule number one, Dont change the core code as you will not be able to upgrade.
Easiest way to start developing modules is to watch the videos in the library on module development. Chris has done a great job of expaining how to use the template to get started and shows you how to build and package and deploy a module.
There is a URL Rewriter already built in, just use the Request filters section under Host menu to manage your custom URLs.

I agree, do not try to edit DNN framework. source code is nice to view at - usually install and symbols should be sufficient for module development and debugging.
Do not try to deal with urls within the module, use a framework service for this purpose - or a 3rd party solution like UrlMaster from www.ifinity.com.au.

thanks for answer

i know very well about module building.so i will not edit dnn source as i cant run source version from VS or browser.how will i use Request filters setting to make url my way like this domainname/Customers/username instead domainname/Customers.aspx?un=username.... also the urlmaster module is not free!..so i guess if i had worked with dnn source i could register route in global.asax kind of like that ...

1. if anyone guide on how to modify request filters to rewrite url? also is there anything someone miss when taking dotnetnuke as base.i don't have dnn source code access so in that case if i make website by normal asp.net do i get extra advantages or knowing dnn module making is all.

2.do any one know how to integrate signalr with dnn framework 3.5.

3.dnn is running on framework 3.5 when .net 4 released long ago.is not that a lacking that we can't use .net 4 features? dnn should upgrade to latest framework very soon when framework released

hope every1 benefit from this thread and all prob solved when taking dnn as base for providing any kind of websites to customers
