Hi there,

One of our client sites has this issue for long time:

There was an error retrieving your password. No password was sent.   (happen now and then)

Just wondering if it's related to MachineKey and how could I fix it?

What happened to the site was: it used to be two portals on the same install, but then we split it to two separate sites, and upgrade one of them, now each of the sites has issue with password reset and retrieving, is it because of both of them using the same MachineKey, and on the same server?

Thank you in advance.

Cheers~

Grace

this should not be caused by the same machinekey, but maybe the smtp server account has issues sending emails (not configured for relaying).

Thank you so much for your reply Sebastian.

But I have tried to switch the SMTP to another one, or even the local one (127.0.0.1 ??), but it still doing it.

The DNN version I was testing is quite old though, it's DNN 4.9.0, so is there any issue with that version? But the thing is we have updated another install after split the portals to DNN 5.5.1, when user trying to update their password, sometime it throws error sometime works fine.

Same for retrieving password, sometime works sometime throw errors.

So just wondering do you have any other thoughts?

Cheers~

Grace

And we using our own registration form for that site, this is how we create new users:

UserCreateStatus ucs = MembershipProvider.Instance().CreateUser(ref ui);

Is this cause the problem?
