Hi All

I'm new to DotNetNuke and i'm currently installing it on my pc.  I was wondering if its possible to use an alternative database platform rather than SQL Server?  I'm currently using Gupta SQLBase which is running my in house CRM application and i want to integrate this database with my website.  Is it possible to configure DNN to use another DB platform?  if so, how do i go about it?

Cheers

Mike

Mike,  I don't have a quick solution for your question, however the answer is yes, due to the architecture behind the DNN portal.

Unless you can find a project that is specifically targeting the database that you are interested in then you may have to write your own dataprovider, which could consume a bit of effort depending on your knownledge.

To find if another project is building a dataprovider then I would suggest a google search for keywords "SQLBase", "DotNetNuke" and "DataProvider".

If you are keen to explore writing a dataprovider then my suggestion is to review the DotNetNuke documentation which does a pretty good job of describing the architecture. Another good resource is on the Microsoft web site: look for "patterns and practices" & " DataProviders".

Cheers
