Before I agreed to install the update to WebMatrix 2 RC all was well but the update generated the error "The specified password for user account 'sa' is not valid, or failed to connect to the database server" when I try to create aDNN site.

I created a new password for user 'sa' using SSMS but I still received the same error.

I therefore guess it is just looking for a server called '.\sqlexpress' whereas my server has the fairly usual '.computername\sqlexpress' but I cannot see where WebMatrix stores or retrieves the string for the connection so that I can change it.

If anyone could give me a clue I would be grateful.

Can you login to SSMS with windows authentication? It wouldn't surprise me if sqlexpress is installed with only Windows Auth security enabled by default, not mixed mode. You might need to change that before you can login with SA

Chris,

Thanks for this and yes, Windows Authentication is the default for my SSMS; attempts to change to SQL Server authentication doesn't work since the SSMS doesn't pick up on the existence of user 'sa'.
