I have a few custom modules, created in VB by a consultant a while ago. These are installed and working fine on my production server. All are very simple (both the .ascx and the .ascx.vb files)  I am trying to set them up on a new server. But I am unsure of the deployment steps (I assume I need to do more than just copy them into the DesktopModules folder on the server).

I am getting confused with the Create New Module wizard (this is on CE 6.2 by the way), particularly the concept of "owner folder", "module folder", etc.

Each module I have is installed in a folder under DesktopModules called <mycompany>.<modulename>. Within each folder I have:

  • view.ascx
  • view.ascx.vb
  • <mycompany>.dnn
  • Documentation folder
  • App_LocalResources folder

What are the steps necessary to get these modules installed and available?

Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark

You can create "Install Package" from your module according to this steps:

  • logon as host to your DNN install,
  • go to page: Host->Module Definitions,
  • select module by clicking edit button,
  • click "Create Module Package";

Note: steps may vary depending on your version of DNN. More info about development process can be found here: DNN Wiki Development

Thank you, Bartlomiej. That worked a treat. Now on to my next issue (see the next forum post) :)

Thanks again.

Mark
