I just asked this question in the general "Getting started" instead of the develepers section. Perhaps som moderator can remove the other one.

I'm new to DotNetNuke and thinking about making the leap from EPiServer. I've tried out doing some developing in DNN but there's one thing I can't really rap my head around.

In EPiServer you create page templates and every page is based on one of those templates. A template has a certain set of properties that each page gets and by creating a collection of pages you can then list everyone of those pages and the properties that you want. This way you can easily create a list of f.ex. new articles displaying the header, ingress and article picutere of each page.

Is there a similar way to go about in DNN? All I can find is listing names of pages and perhaps some text from it.

DNN has a totally different concept, it is designed more as an application platform, i.e. each module is free to use its own structure, data storage etc. Modules may implement interfaces to tell the framework about the content, e.g. by implementing Search, Taxonomy and Portability.
You may parse the page structure and - using tabmodules and modules structure - access modules, to query content, but be aware that same module might be used on multiple pages or multiple modules may share content.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure I understand but maybe it will all come to me in time. Do you know any module that does what I'd like to do? Or perhaps got a link to share with some more in depth info on the subject?
