Hi,

I have started creating my site on a Development server which points to a database on that server. As I'm working along, I realize that I should probably be working locally through Visual Studio because it is easier to implement custom modules and to save my work in TFS as well.

I thought I could set up my DNN site locally through Visual Studio and install it on a different database (because all of my work is currently on my DEV database and I don't want to disrupt my current work) and I used the same host account and password and then change my web.config to point to my DEV database so that all of my previous work is still there but when I log in to my host account, it doesn't recognize my password. Is this because I set it up through a different install? Is there any way of logging in to my local version if DNN withough having to reinstall the files and re-do my database?

Thanks

Rob,

the passwords are encrypted using the machine key in the web.config file. This key is generated during the first installation.

As far as I understand you have deleted the installation - if no, you can just copy the machine key from your old web.config to your new one - this should work. (Better backup your web.config before)

If yes, there is a way to reset the host password, see here.

Best wishes
Michael

if the 2nd one is a new install, that is expected behavior - DotNetNuke generates a unique machinekey for each install to ensure that the same password has a unique encryption. You can "fix" this by resetting the password, see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W... but I'd recommend you look into copying the test install itself (both files and database) - heres an excellent blog on doing so - http://www.ifinity.com.au/2012/09/05/...
