I'm a newbie working thru the tutorials.I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express, and am working on the "Task Manager" project.I've hit the wall where Team Foundation Server and Team Explorer are available to VS 2010, but not to VS 2010 Express. What's the best alternative to TFS/TE ? The documentation mentions SUBVERSION, but it's apparently accomodates only out-of-date software. What about GIT and MERCURIAL ? Are they usable ?THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.Jeff

Use VS2012 express for web. Team Explorer is built in to it and you can open any project or solution you have created with VS2010 in 2012 and then switch back to use 2010 for further modification and back to 2012 for the source control with no problem. Or, once you have set up the project in 2010, use 2012 to work on it and do the source control.

You can open and work on a .NET3.5 project that was created in 2010, but you cannot create a new .NET3.5 project in 2012. If you are working .NET4 then you can create your projects directly in 2012.
