This is a strategy question. I have a membership-based site where a dotnetnuke userid is assigned to a family account, not an individual person. I want to send emails from this website using the newsletter module. But the families want more than one email address to receive the emails I send out. For example both the mom and the dad want a copy of my emails.

I have tried Axon by Onyaktech and my users who send emails have avoided using it because they say it is too complicated. They like the standard newsletter module. We just need to figure out how to include additional email addresses in the recipient list without manually pasting in the addresses each time.

How do I accomplish multiple email addresses for one userid? OR

How else might I send an email to more than one email address per DNN UserID?

DNN Bulkmail module (Admin > Newsletter) and underlying SendTokenizedBulkMail used to support this scenario in DNN 4-5, but AFAIR this option was removed from Bulmkmail module in ~ version 5.5, sorry.

Hi, I am using DNN 6.2.3, and so far I have been able to accomplish this by doing the following.

1) As admin, go under site setting -> user account settings, and blank out the regular expression in the box "Email Address Validation"

2) For a user with multiple emails, have them put them in with a comma between them.

the newsletter seems to work fine (although the audit post will have a count of 1 per user, it does send to as many as you have defined in the email field.

Not sure yet if this is going to cause other problems, I just got this request today myself so I don't know yet if this mucks up other things, I'll find out :)

If it works, I'll try to come up with a proper regular expression so that it still forces people to put in something valid (either one or more valid email addresses), as the blanking it out is only meant to be temporary.

I hope this doesn't cause other problems, this would be a nice simple solution as I am in the same boat.

thks,

Phil

Refering to your post about "I have a membership-based site where a dotnetnuke userid is assigned to a family account, not an individual person."

How did you accomplish this if I may ask? I am in need of a similar "family account" scenario, with "Mom", "Dad", and family members like the kids, or "Granny" who may be kept hidden in the basement...just kidding.
I am very interested in how you set that scenario up? Did this require a custom module to accomplish?
Thanks in advance, Eric O

Eric, To answer your question. Setting up the membership for families instead of individuals was more about explaining than about configuration. I have a page with registration directions on it and the registration module at the bottom. The directions tell the user to create an account for the family and to enter the primary email address through which this website will contact them in the future. I also suggest that the display name and username should be readable and identifyable, like "Smith Family." I also created a fair quantity of additional user fields for the additional family members. Like "MotherFirstName", "MotherMobilePhone", etc. I am using the Dynamic Registration module from DataSprings.com. And this module did make it easier for me to make these additional fields, but I could have made the fields without the module also.

My site charges the family a membership fee. So there is a built- in incentive for the family members to not create additional accounts. It they do, it charges them the membership fee again. They usually stop when they see the fee. This model is working for everything this site needs to do - except sending multiple emails to the same DNN user, which is the topic of this post.

Mark
