Hello,

I was just wondering about the status of the "Community Voice" stuff... It looks like the last updates from the DNN team were all around late June/early July.

Should we still use the voice area to log ideas? Does anybody use/check it anymore?

Thanks,

Mike

IMHO, community voice is a great option to allow community for phrasing its ideas and getting feedback from other members.

I agree that's its a great way to crowd source and organize community priorities. However, if the community makes contributions but no one is listening on the other end...it will quickly turn from a positive to a lot of negative sentiment within that very community.

I would highly encourage DNN to not only follow up on features, but perhaps even commit to implement the top n each release cycle. There are some good ideas in there that should make the roadmap that already have positive demand from the community.

Please moderate your language - FYI we dont check sourceforge as we havent used it in 3+ years, but we do monitor the voice and gemini (and to a a lesser extent forums) - we do not typically monitor codeplex (and unfortunately codeplex do not allow us to disable patches so its better to submit patches via gemini). What is not obvious is that we often have plans up to 1 year in advance and items are already tentatively scheduled for future releases - we only assign them to the release once we know the full release plan and are aware of the availalble resources.

 Hi Mike,

We do monitor the Community Voice on a daily basis.  While the tool has been great for capturing ideas and measuring interest, it has been very limited in allowing us to provide status or feedback on particular ideas.  We do have several enhancements under development at the moment for this module which should be deployed on this site within the next week or so.  Once the enhancements are in place we will be able to respond to each issue and actually indicate if an item is under review.

The other thing to keep in mind is exactly what Cathal had mentioned.  Quite often our release plans are known 6-months to a year in advance.  This means that is quite possible that an idea could be in Community Voice for at least 6 months before there is any movement.  However, we still need to do a better job of communicating on our intent with certain ideas.  Once the enhancements are in place we will be able to incorporate reviewing ideas into our standard Product Management process.

I also look at Community Voice as an opportunity for our commercial ecosystem as well.  Commercial developers should be looking for idea suggestions as well to see if there are opportunities for them to introduce new products or features into the market.

Keep the ideas coming!

Will
