We are looking for suggestions on the best path to take in upgrading our site from 4.0.3  to 6.2.3.  The current site was version 3.0.13 and was upgraded to 4.0.3.  After this upgrade the admin users for the child portals have problems getting logged out after attempting a change with the link modules.  We have never been able to resolve this issue.    Would you suggest upgrading the current site or creating a new site and re-importing the data?

Hi Kelly,

How large is the site and how many users do you have? If it is not a huge site you might consider recreating it since you are already experiencing problems with the previous upgrade. There have been a lot of changes incorporated since then, especially once you go from 5.x to 6.x. Here is a link to the recommended upgrade path.

Good luck.

Besides the size of the site, it depends on 3rd party modules being used. If you want to keep site structure and design, I would create a clone of the site and try upgrading, using multiple steps along the suggested upgrade path.

We do not have any 3rd party modules incorporated in the site. We do feel the site is pretty large. In respect to the users, we do not allow people to register on our site, we create all users that have access to the site (approximately 150).

in this case, I would prefer upgrade via versions 4.3.7, 4.6.2 (both steps require adopting web.config manually), 4.9.5, 5.2.3, 5.4.4, 5.6.8 and 6.1.5.
