Hi,

I'm fairly new to dotnetnuke and i have a question about users in DNN 6.2 and SQL SERVER 2008

I have a basic installation of dotnetnuke on 1 machine and another installation on another machine, each on a different location.

Both are 2 separate dotnetnuke databases on sql server 2008 R2.

When a new user is created on the first installation is it possible to create the same user on the other installation?

I thought it would be possible via triggers and linked servers, but i'm not sure.

Best regards

it would be possible to create users via SQL, but there are a number of tables affected and you are highly sensitive for table changes on upgrades. If you want to use a single user base, consider creating a custom membership provider or use one of the existing user sync modules in the store.

I created a migration script that moved users from another portal to DNN, but this was a one time thing. Even then, I had several issues.

One time may be OK, but I would be hesitant to do this on a regular basis.
Be careful not to get the passwords messed up.  That would be a huge pain.... trust me!

DataSpring has a module that can do this and I'm sure they would have a better solution that either of us could come up with.

If you were dead set on doing it, I'd just restore all the user tables from one server to the other:

Users
aspnet_*
UserProfile
ProfilePropertyDefinition
Roles
UserRoles
and any others I am not remembering right now.....
