Hey,

I have a DotNetNuke 4.3.0 Website installed Manually on the root of a godaddy shared hosting..

However, I would like to start developping modules for it.. unfortunately most tutorials on making modules rely on having a local dnn install and Ms Visual Web Developper or VS.NET 2003...

So how do I link my godaddy dnn site with either of these two?

Do I absolutely need front page server extensions in order to be able to work in visual web developper and interact directly with the site as shown in this tutorial (local dnn site) http://forums.asp.net/1114393/ShowPost.aspx

I'm not sure about configuring Web Developer or Visual Studio, but I think in order for those tools to be able to write files to GoDaddy's web servers they must have FrontPage Extensions installed.

However, even if you can browse and edit the site through VS/VWD, you won't be able to debug anything which (for me) is invaluble for module development. My recommendation is to install DNN locally if you can and develop your modules locally, then package and upload them to GoDaddy.

Thrust me when I say you'd better code your modules localy and upload them later to your hosting.

You will guaranteed mess up multiple databases when fiddling in visual studio

 

I doubt GoDaddy supports remote debugging, but you could always give them an e-mail and ask for it

Edit your Skin.xml and Container.xml files with:
