DNN menus typically depend upon a mouse hover event to display and select a drop-down menu items. Since touch screens cannot detect a hover event, sub-menu selections in DNN are not working for me.  I'm using Windows 8 with DNN 6.2.4.  In searching for a solution, I've tried many different skins but have not yet found one with a menu system that works with Windows 8 via a touch screen.

Is there an existing work-around or other solution for this issue?  If not, this appears to be something that must be addressed by DNN skin and module developers.  Hopefully, it will be addressed via the pending release of DNN 7.

Well, that's not really a DNN issue, but more a choice of the skin designer.
The simple solution is to disable the root menu items (they still exist and show up in the menu, but you cannot click them any more).

The other solution is to buy / create a skin that does not use dropdown menu's

It seems like DNN should be designed to work with touch devices.  Considering the rapid growth of smart phones, tablets and newer touch screen PCs that run Windows 8, it seems odd that one must search for third-party solutions or develop their own.

I'm trying to find a solution that will enable DNN to meet the needs of  my client's who use touch screens.  There appears to be some potential in the aria-haspopup DOM property for simulating hover on touch-enabled devices, but my research is in its early stages.  I'd be curious if anyone else has some suggestions.

Incidentally, in looking through the skin offerings on the DNN Store, I wasn't able to find a single skin that could properly accommodate a touch interface.

Jeff, Did you ever find a workaround or resolution for this? We are having similar difficulties with ie11 on win8 and with Windows Phone 8.

Why is Timo's solution unacceptable to you?
