In the products page of the DNN site one of the main sections refers to Document Management, although this immediately then points you towards the Microsoft SharePoint connector it does say "DNN also includes a full document management solution".

Am i correct in thinking this is because it does allow some form of version control and dating of the CMS data rather than it has the ability to manage things like local files, document control, document permissions, document scanning etc?

If i search the DNN resources for 'document management' there are no results so i cant find anything that describes DNN in the terms of what i would call a DMS.

Is anyone using DNN as a local pure document management system?

DNN Pro and Enterprise do include Document Library module,
For DNN Community, have a look at Document Exchange solution from www.bring2mind.net.
