The installation routine doesn't see SQL Server 2008 R2, but I already have it! Why doesn't it see it and how do I fix that?

Thanks,
Jay

are you using custom install options? default options are looking for express edition only.

I'm trying to install the Community Edition. I tried going into Options during the install, but didn't see anything that looked like it would allow me to use SQL Server.

Don't select the default or standard install. There should be another, maybe custom, like Sebatian said. This option allows you to specify the location of the database.
