I was browsing the DNN site looking for DNN7-specific documentation a moment ago and found this comment on the Documentation tab of the Download page:

FYI

If anyone has the problem with not being able to edit the page, or not being able to add modules it can be resolved by changing the following in the web.config:

change to

Ends up this change works for me in terms of editing pages, adding modules and the undefined error for messages also has disappeared. Interesting that this comment was placed on that page 3 days ago.

Anyway I can now continue with my testing and set up. Hopefully no other problems emerge.

Thank you jaction, who ever you are!!

Maybe somebody from DNN could comment to give us some idea that this is the correct way to fix this problem or whether we should wait for an official fix. Don't want to find this change breaks other things and no comment doesn't instil great confidence.
Does make you wonder how on earth an, allegedly reported, bug such as this could not be fixed before release to the public and even if it wasn't previously reported how this just hasn't been picked up in "testing"!
It's one of the most important aspects of the whole website! Unbelievable!
Looks like a case of you get what you pay for again. Upgrade to Pro and get something that works.

Actually I've just made the change in web.config and it makes no difference to me so I'll continue to wait until DNN do something about this.

Also having the same issue, complete fresh install... Click "Edit this page", see a dnn popup loading, page refreshes in view mode. Also see the 401 response to the API request /DesktopModules/internalservices/API/controlbar/ToggleUserMode just before the page refresh's..

Shame - I wont be using this build of DNN7 then!
