Has anyone been successful at getting a DNN 6.0 or later install to work with a godaddy.com account?

I couple of years ago I did an install with DNN 4.x with no problem.  I'm starting a new website and trying to get DNN 6.02.05 to install and I have no problems with the localhost account but when I copy all of the files over to my host account the install wizard never starts and it get this error:

Access to the path 'D:\hosting\10010811\html\DotNetNuke.log4net.config' is denied” .

If the install wizard would start this file would get created and I wouldn't get this error.  My database has been created because I'm connecting to it via my localhost.

Any ideas?

Looks like a permissions issue.

Reach out to godaddy and ask them to look in to it since they may be the only people that can help.

I don't recommend using a godaddy shared hosting account.. max db size is 200mb which can be reached very fast.. been there done that.. also issues with root/permissions/speed etc.

I use a 1and1 VPS now for $49/month and have no problems at all.

Unfortunately DNN will not run in the root directory of a hosting account in GoDaddy. I believe the main reason for this, is because you can't give the root "writable" permissions. I've always used the "One Click Hosting Applications" feature in GoDaddy to get DNN working correctly. It configures it for the GoDaddy shared hosting. What I've done is developed my sites locally and then exported the site as a template, uploaded any Skin files need and installed any modules used and then imported the template into the install on GoDaddy.

You may want to consider using some kind of host tracker that hits the keepalive.aspx page about every ten minutes, I find that older version of DNN can take too long to load back up after the application pool recycles, that it's best to just keep it running.

If you're still having problems, you just have to sit on the telephone support people. They now have dnn 7.0.0 but it is - for one thing - slower than frozen snot. I would say it barely works. it is difficult to tell whether the dnn screens don't work or if their response is so slow that the internals just keep timing out.

If this was my production demo site, which I wanted it to be, people would not consider me because of the extremely slow response.

I feel like I've been their qa person and am pretty much exhausted - have put in many hours over 3 weeks just to get back to my starting point.

I have a contract expiring in the spring and it will not be renewed.
