Hi,

I have a few DNN installations, version 6.1.5, on a windows 2008 server running .net framework 3.5 and SQL Express 2008.

Now I would like to upgrade those sites to DNN 7.0. On the same server I also would like to make a new install of DNN7.0.

Does anyone know if I then first need to download and install .net framework version 4.0, or will that be installed during an upgrade or during a new install of DNN 7.0?

Thanks!
Peter

Peter,

I think it depends a bit of the installation method. If you use WebInstaller, it should work fine without any prerequisites, but I am not too sure.

When installing/upgrading the "normal" way, the AppPool should be set to .Net4 before the installation/upgrade, I guess.

Anyway: I would try to test this on an local installation (or testing environment) before doing it on the production server.

Best wishes
Michael

Along these lines... is there anywhere that lists the system upgrade requirement/steps along with the actual DNN upgrade process?

The Wiki page (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...) addresses only the DNN part. I'm wondering things such as:

  1. What are the exact OS/IIS/SQL/.NET requirements?
  2. What are the considerations for changing the app pool to be .NET3.5/4.0? Will existing sites break while I'm adding the new upgrade site?
  3. What existing functionality may be changed/deprecated

etc...

I've scoured all the DNN 7.0 pages, etc... and it appears that many of the installation/upgrade pages are generic for all versions, and don't address the spfics new to 7.0.

Thanks.

Same problem here. It says on http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Downloads/System-Requirements.aspx DNN7 requires .net 4.0, but the first lines of the DNN7_CE installation readme.txt mention:
"DotNetNuke requires .net 3.5 SP1 (or higher) to be installed."
and on the next line:

".NET Framework 2.0 must be installed (.net 3.5 SP1 is recommended as a future version of DotNetNuke will require this)"

I'm confused

Is this the installation readme of DNN4 which they partially updated to DNN5 or something? Or does DNN7 professional require .net 4.0 while DNN7 CE requires .net 2.0?

I agree that the requirements for DNN 7.x are confusing and wish that they would be clearly stated on every 7.x release download page on CodePlex. The following Wiki entry gives a good comparison of minimum requirements for various DNN versions:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/D...

Note that DNN 7.x (and probably 6.x) can also use MS SQL Server 2012 as well as 2008. There are no differences in the minimum requirements of the Community, Professional and Enterprise editions. Installation tutorials, Wiki entries, and videos are gradually getting updated for DNN 7 but it will be awhile, I'm sure.
