We do something similar to this.
But, we use an IIS module called, Application Request Routing.
This is how we do cross-site authentication.

The link is built by a custom module, so the link it:
https://test.mysite.com/abcdef?sId=ab23-34123dc-ae321212

The IIS module looks for the wildcare (or you can do regex): /abcdef, then redirects to:
https://test.mysite.com:8080/dashboard?sId=ab23-34123dc-ae321212

This site when uses a web service to validate the user by the sId.
