I am currently researching platforms for our customer community website and have some questions that I have not been able to find answers to. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

1. Can users reply to forums and blogs via email?
2. Can a site be organized by groups where each group has its own pages, forums, documents, etc.? Or is this accomplished through child portals? Can child portals be private or by invitation only?
3. Document management that includes edit locks, versioning, etc. is handled via purchased add-ons from the store, correct?
4. Does the platform come with a built in document viewer or is that available as an add-on from the store as well?

Thanks,
Terry

1. this used to be a feature in Active Forums 4, which has been removed in open source version 5. You might check out YAF.Net integration (dnnyafnet.codeplex.com), whether this feature is included. Same applies for 3rd party blog modules like sunblog (store.dotnetnuke.com). IMHO livewriter support is more suitable for publishing blog posts.
2. organizing permissions can easily be done by child portals, which require re-registration with same username and password to gain access. Otherwise use pages with specific role permissions for security roles associated with each group.
3. there are free documents modules (e.g. dnndocuments.codeplex.com), however the only one with versioning I know of is Document Exchange from www.bring2mind.net.
4. this might be included in Document Exchange, please check the feature list.
