It's actually pretty easy, you just need to follow some steps first:

  1. Log into your Arvixe control panel.
  2. If you do not already have a WebSite created for your Domain, add one
  3. Add the Database that will be used for DNN (also, add a new DB user which will be the one you'll use in your connection string for DNN).
  4. Now, go to your WebSite settings in Arvixe, navigate to the "Remote Management" tab and enable that (set the password).  Next, go to the "Publishing" tab and enable that.
  5. Once you've done that, you can click "Download the Publishing Profile for this Site" link, save it locally, and then in WebMatrix import it as your Publishing settings.

Hope that helps.

Let's talk.

I just signed up to Arvixe (for DNN purposes) and they have NO/ZERO DNN documentation and they say they will support but too iterations to for up and running. For examples, zero documentation on adding skins, modules, containers and so forth.

Obviously I am new to DNN.

Arvixe has essentially two plans but in order to really get DNN up and running they want to bump up to VPS...too costly, Arvixe hosting is under $10 a month. What is competitive out here?

Thanks in advance,

John

Right, I used to be able to just do everything locally using Microsoft Web Matrix and then upload the changes (site and DB) to Arvixe.  Now, with the latest versions of Web Matrix, MS has changed something where they want to update the ACLs (Access Control Lists) on the remote server, which Arvixe does not allow through Web Matrix (although you can through their CP).

So, my approach to this now would be to create your web site in their CP (I am using their basic "ASP Personal" account), and from the same CP install DNN on that site.  Next, go into the Web Site through their CP and setup the logins for publishing and remote management.  Once that is done, you can then use Visual Studio or Web Matrix to connect remotely to your DNN site and modify any containers, themes, etc.  I usually do that when I am themeing because it's too hard to use DNN to manage the CSS files.

Hi Johnny,

BIG thank you for your reply. I understand the payment/value/pay what it's worth principle. I agree with you.

here is my email address - nucleusproject (AT THE) Hotmail.com - very interested and while I am not a rich and lowly person, I am not a cheap or unreasonable person either. I will review the powerdnn plans and look forward to your advice.
