I was installing a new DNN 7 site on an SQL server that already had an installation on the DB (it had DNN7_ as the table prefix.

I hung on install at found 90% - it was hanging (I think) when it was trying to create my HOST user (I use a different name than HOST) in the aspnet_Users table.  Because the table already existed (it does not pre-pend the DNN7_ or whatever db table prefix you use) on a group of tables starting with aspnet_.

I restated the install, hung at same spot. I went back to the site and it was up and running.  Weird.

I thought all was fine but now one of my sites does not have access to the Host menu, even though DNN calls me the SuperUser.  I believe this is a bug, but have not researched it too much yet.

Any help would be appreciated.  Comments please...I worked on one of the sites quite a bit, and would hate to have to reinstall and redo all my work.

Are you using two separate databases for the two separate installs?

Same database, same server, just different table prefixes:  one was called DNN7_ the other just DNN_.  Each host account was changed to the same name (I use admin)

Shouldn't this be possible?

No.

Each DotNetNuke installation requires its own database.

And, just to be sure that there's no misunderstanding: A single installation of DotNetNuke can support multiple portals (websites). But, each installation (separate web directories) requres its own database. A single SQL Server can support multiple databases.

If this isn't clear, please ask questions.

Also, by trying to install a second version of DotNetNuke into an existing database, I'm not sure what damage you might have caused to the original installation ...

Actually, the point of {objectQualifier} is to permit exactly what the original poster is attempting.

Different DNN code-bases should indeed be able to share the same database.

I've never done it in production, nor does it suggest itself as good practice for a host of reasons. But there may be situations where this might be desirable for non-business-critical purposes ... though I'd not go there ever unless under duress.
