Those that have paid for and are using Active Modules (Active Forums and Active Social) will by now have come to the conclusion by now  that we have been left out in the cold as far as the Migration of AS to 6.2 and beyond is concerned and that it is a dead horse.

Posting on the Active Social Migrator forum (codeplex) or on the Active Modules Forum has become a waste of time and the best place for further discussion would be here.

I have decided not to pursue the migration of AS any further  and to drop Active Social completely from my site. I do however want to retain Active Forums and as I have had the two integrated dropping AS is not as simple as it may first appear.

I have done this several times (removing all AS modules and pages, uninstalling the AS extension) and generally is successful however errors creep into the forum.

My first question here is has anyone successfully separated the two modules and been able to completely remove all AS files and data? Several Tables and most if not all AS Procedures are left behind.

This is exactly what we need to do, did you find a solution?
We were running DNN 6.1.5, AS 1.9.x and AF 4.3.8.
Now we're on DNN 7 with a busted AS and AF 4.3.8 that are barely hanging in there.
If anyone can point to some solutions I'd be much obliged.
Thanks,
J.

I too have come to this conclusion - resource effort from AS is now being invested in DNN Social (with a cost of $12k a year, instead of the $300 I used to pay for AS!) , so I do not expect the core social features to improve much more in the community edition (there are still so many things that ActiveSocial does better than the core version).

However, a long term move means getting off the old AS code (the migrations "utils" failed miserably for me - they are "open source" which means "no support" despite the fact that we paid for ActiveSocial. This was a disappointing experience for me....

I am still waiting for migration script update which was promised in November of 2012.

I have tested more than half a year and I did yesterday again. All the same
Sorted by steps
1) profile pictures are not transferred at all but script writes it successful
2) internal server error popup
3) script writes it is successful but the group names trimmed from the end. So group names incorrect
4) script does not write anything it looks like working for several minutes and than just stops. I have not found any journal records transferred.

Also I do not know what of the steps do it but all user Cyrillic names are broken. User profiles of these users are unavailable.

I repeat I do the migration twice - all the same results.

Why is DNN Corporation is so unreliable? If we need drop Active Social at all with all content may it is better to move to another engine with cheaper and reliable support?
