Most of the social functionality built into DNN 6.2 comes from the the Active Social Module which came from Active Modules who were acquired by DNN Corp a couple years again.

When they integrated it into the core, they improved lots of stuff and in general, I really like the direction that it's taking.

However, the integration also resulted in some significant steps backwards, particularly when it comes to messaging. Unfortunately, "Private Messages" are a popular feature on my site, so this is a bit of a hot-button topic for me.

I posted a thread with a couple of my complaints/suggestions a week or two ago. You can see it here:

I'd love to see more people talking about the social functionality as I really do think it's a fantastic feature. Just needs a little more love from the DNN development team.

A great start, thank you.

Yes, they mention Social/Community in the PR all over the place. It's time to get a forum dedicated to it and get it moving along. Hopefully someone is listening. I think a topic called Let's Get Social would draw some attention. :)

FYI we are doing a lot of work on social currently and in the next few months, targetted for the 7.1.0 release. This is to both build up that area in the opencore (CE), and to leverage that for the new "nebula" project that comes out later this year (Navin covered this and many parts of our vision for social in his DNNWorld keynote http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh9rAK... ). As "nebula" is a social application, it means we're running into lots of places where we need to improve the CE code to support use cases - all of these changes will hopefully make the social code better, easier and more powerful for all users.

Thanks for the info Cathal. Like I said, I think the social features are great, and they are a huge hit on my website. There are just a few issues about how a few things work that seem to be real pain points for my users.

I really agree that a "Social Implementations" forum or something like that would be a valuable addition to these forums.

I added a request in the Community Voice to get a social forum added. Please give it a vote of support.
