I changed the alias setting from canonical to redirect in the admin settings and now I can't get to my site because I get a redirect loop.

 Hostname Example: mysite.temporary.whatever.com/myfolder

There is no trailing slash but the site is in a subdirectory so I have to have a slash after the domain.

How can I change the alias setting back to canonical if I can't get to the site at all now? SQL command maybe but what table/field?

That bastard Canonical / Redirect alias setting is BAD JUJU!  Changing it can completely prevent your entire site from loading ever again.

I had to run this SQL command to get my site back:

UPDATE PortalSettings SET SettingValue = 'CANONICALURL' WHERE SettingValue = 'REDIRECT'

I have the same issue with DNN 7.2.2:   I changed the setting to "Redirect" and  was unable to get to my website.   I used SQL Server Management Studio to fix the problem.

I recommend the following SQL code since choosing on the value of "Redirect" is not the best idea in the dbo.PortalSettings table (which has many values to set):

SELECT * FROM dbo.PortalSettings
     WHERE SettingName = 'PortalAliasMapping'

UPDATE PortalSettings SET SettingValue = 'CANONICALURL'
     WHERE SettingName = 'PortalAliasMapping'
